The UYDF has produced 251 graduates, covering 16 different health science disciplines. In many cases, our graduates have started new services at the rural hospitals where they started working. Graduates are working at 12 different rural hospitals in northern Kwa Zulu Natal. Many rural communities are benefiting from services such as eg. Optometry; Psychology, Speech Therapy which previously were simply unavailable!

A breakdown of the number of graduates per health science discipline is presented below:

Graduates by profession 2016

Looking at the 2015 breakdown of where graduates are working, it can be seen from the Pie Chart below, that the majority of graduates are currently working at a rural hospital - the aim and purpose of the programme!

If one excludes those busy with internship training, as it cannot be done at a rural hospital, 69% of graduates are currently working at a rural hospital. Including those graduates working at rural NGO's this percentage increases to 74%!

The Pie Chart below show a breakdown of the 70 graduates who have no further work back obligation to the UYDF (2015):

Significantly 63% of them are still working at a rural hospital. Including those graduates working at rural NGO's, this percentage increases to 70! This confirms that the investment in rural youth as a way of addressing the shortages of staff at rural hospitals is a good strategy
